『クリスマス：希望か敵対か？』本多一米師
Christmas: Hope or Hostility? by Pastor Ichibei Honda
These days, it seems that almost every other so-called holiday can be celebrated openly except for Christmas. Although we associate the word Christmas with Jesus Christ’s birth, the actual meaning of the word itself means to “worship Christ”. The sad truth is that not everyone wants to worship Christ. There are some today who feel hostility toward Christmas and want nothing to do with it. However, this is nothing new. Throughout history, Christmas has meant hope for some and hostility for others. This was true when Jesus Christ was born. This was true when Jesus was still a child. And this was true when Jesus was a man. The question for each of us is whether Christ’s coming brings us hope or hostility?
最近では、クリスマス以外の祝日と呼ばれるものは、ほとんど全ては公然と祝うことができるようです。私達はクリスマスという言葉からイエス・キリストの誕生を連想しますが、この言葉自体の実際の意味は「キリストを礼拝する」ということなのです。悲しいことに、誰もがキリストを礼拝したいと思っているわけではありません。現代ではクリスマスに敵意を感じ、関わりたくないと思う人もいます。しかし、これは何も新しいことではありません。歴史上、クリスマスはある人々にとっては希望を意味し、ある人々にとっては敵意を意味するものでした。イエス・キリストがお生まれになった時もそうでした。それはイエス・キリストがまだ幼かった頃にも当てはまりました。それはイエス・キリストが大人であった時も同様でした。私たち一人ひとりにとって、キリストの到来が希望をもたらすのか、それとも敵対をもたらすのかが問題なのです。
