Do You Have Flavor? by Pastor Ichibei Honda
“You are the salt of the earth”. Having told His disciples of what a “blessed” person who sought God’s kingdom and righteousness would be like, Jesus now told them that they are the salt of the earth. In saying this, Jesus gave a positive affirmation followed by a negative warning regarding this matter: “but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.” So, what is the importance of salt as it relates to our relationship with God and other people? The title for this Sunday’s worship message is “Do You Have Flavor?”, and we will consider together the implications of what Jesus meant by saying, “You are the salt of the earth”.
「あなたがたは、地の塩である」。神の国と義を求める「さいわい」な人がどのようであるかを弟子たちに伝えた上で、今度は弟子たちが地の塩であることをイエス様は告げられたのです。このとき、イエス様は肯定的なメッセージと同時に、否定的な警告をされたのです：「もし塩のききめがなくなったら、何によってその味が取りもどされようか。もはや、なんの役にも立たず、ただ外に捨てられて、人々にふみつけられるだけである」。では、神や他の人々との関係において、塩の重要性はどのようなものなのでしょうか？今週の日曜日の礼拝メッセージのタイトルは「あなたは味がありますか？」です。「あなたがたは、地の塩である」というイエス様の言葉の意味するところを一緒に考えて見ます。
