“Onesimus and Philemon: Brothers in Christ”

In this message, we will look at the letter that Paul wrote to a man named Philemon. In the letter, Paul makes an appeal on behalf of Onesimus, who was a domestic slave, who belonged to Philemon. Onesimus had run away from Philemon and had made his way to Rome where he met Paul. There, Paul led Onesimus to faith in Jesus Christ and then persuaded him to return to Philemon. Paul asked Philemon to forgive Onesimus who had become a Christian, and even going beyond forgiveness, to accept Onesimus as a brother. May we learn to affirm the truth that a Christian’s status as a member of God’s family transcends all other distinctions among believers.
このメッセージでは、パウロがピレモンという人物に宛てた手紙について見ていきます。その手紙の中で、パウロは、ピレモンの家の奴隷であったオネシモのために、彼に代わって懇願しています。オネシモはピレモンのもとから逃げ出し、ローマへと向かい、そこでパウロと出会ったのです。そしてそこで、パウロはオネシモをイエス・キリストへの信仰へと導き、彼がピレモンのもとへ戻るよう説得しました。パウロはピレモンに、キリスト者となったオネシモをゆるすように求め、さらにはゆるすにとどまらず、オネシモを兄弟として受け入れるよう求めたのです。クリスチャンが神の家族の一員であるという立場は、信者間のあらゆる他の区別を超越しているという真実を、私たちがしっかりと心に刻むことができますように。
