“Ezra: Scribe of the Law of God”

Over the next few Sundays, we will look at three people in the Bible, Ezra, Esther, and Nehemiah, who lived during the period that came after the Babylonian exile. For this message, we will specifically look at Ezra and the book of Ezra. Since Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther are placed together with the Historical Books, they are found right after 1 and 2 Chronicles and not after Ezekiel and Daniel. According to Jewish tradition, Ezra is considered to be the author of 1 and 2 Chronicles as well as having a hand in the writings of the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. Ezra was a scribe, a priest, and a leader of the Jews. Through Ezra and the book of Ezra, we are reminded of the importance of knowing and keeping God’s word.
これから数回の日曜日にかけて、バビロン追放後の時代に生きた３人、エズラ、エステル、ネヘミヤを取り上げます。このメッセージでは、特にエズラとエズラ記を取り上げます。エズラ記、ネヘミヤ記、エステル記は歴史書と一緒に聖書の中では置かれているため、エゼキエル書やダニエル書の後ではなく、第一歴代誌や第二歴代誌のすぐ後にあります。興味深いことに、ユダヤ教の伝統によれば、エズラは歴代誌第一・二の著者であると同時に、エズラ書、ネヘミヤ書、エステル記の執筆にも関与していると考えられています。エズラは律法学者であり、祭司であり、ユダヤ人の指導者でもありました。エズラとエズラ記を通して、私たちは神の言葉を知り、守ることの重要性を思い知らされます。
