“Knowing and Living in the Father’s Love”

On Father’s Day, as I think about my dad, I am reminded of the parable of the prodigal son.  This parable is actually the third of three parables that Jesus gave in response to the grumblings of the Pharisees and scribes.  So, in response to the grumblings of the Pharisees and scribes, who were the Jewish religious leaders of His day, Jesus gave three parables regarding God’s love for sinners.  He talked about a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son in these parables.  Jesus’ main point in telling these three parables was to show the Pharisees and scribes how much God values and welcomes lost sinners and rejoices over them when they repent and turn to Him.  Blessed is the person who has a place where they can truly call home where the loving God the Father is always awaiting them.

 

父の日に、自分の父について考えるとき、放蕩息子のたとえ話を思い出します。このたとえ話は、イエス様がパリサイ人や律法学者の不平不満に答えるために語った三つのたとえ話のうちの三つ目のものです。そこでイエスは、当時のユダヤ教の宗教指導者であったパリサイ人や律法学者たちの不平不満に応えるために、罪人に対する神の愛について三つのたとえ話をしました。これらのたとえ話で、失われた羊、失われた銀貨、失われた息子について語りました。イエス様がこのたとえ話をした主な目的は、パリサイ人や律法学者に、神がどれほど失われた罪人を大切にし、歓迎し、彼らが悔い改めて神に立ち返る時、そのことをどれほど喜ばれるかを示すことでした。愛に満ちた父なる神がいつも待っている、本当に家と呼べる場所を持つ人は幸いであります。
