“Saul: Tall Yet Small”

For this message, we will be looking at King Saul. In the Bible, Saul is introduced as the son of Kish from the tribe of Benjamin. We also see a description of his physical attributes. If you wanted as a king, someone who was good looking and would literally stand out in a crowd, Saul was the prime candidate. However, the king of Israel was not to be chosen by the people by way of a popularity contest. The choice was to be made by God and through His servant, Samuel, who was a priest, prophet, and judge, at that time. Though Saul was chosen by God to be the first king of Israel, we will see that he started off with great promise but sadly ended up in utter disgrace. We hope to learn some important lessons from his life, so that we do not repeat his mistakes.
今回のメッセージでは、サウル王を取り上げます。聖書の中で、サウルはベニヤミン族のキシの子として紹介されています。また、彼の身体的特徴についての記述も見られます。容姿端麗で、文字通り群衆の中で目立つ人物を王とするなら、サウルは最有力候補でした。しかし、イスラエルの王は人気投票で民が選ぶものではありませんでした。その選択は神様が、当時、祭司であり預言者であり士師であった神の僕、サムエルを通してなされることになっていました。サウルは神に選ばれてイスラエルの初代王となりましたが、当初は大きな将来性を持って出発したものの、悲しいことに全くの不名誉に終わったことが見られます。私たちは彼の人生から重要な教訓を学び、彼の過ちを繰り返さないようにしたいと願います。
