“Stephen: Walking In and Toward the Light”

For this message, we will look at Stephen, who was chosen as one of seven men who were men of good reputation and were full of the Spirit and of wisdom. They were specifically chosen out of a need that arose in the growing Church as the number of disciples increased and competing cross-cultural (Hellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews) concerns arose. They were chosen to oversee the daily serving of food, that is to serve tables (wait on people). They were chosen, so that the apostles would be able to devote themselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. We will look at Stephen’s ministry and how he became the first martyr as a witness of Christ.
このメッセージでは、評判が良く、聖霊と知恵に満ちた七人の一人として選ばれたステパノを取り上げます。彼らが選ばれたのは、弟子たちの数が増え、異文化間の対立（ヘレニズム系ユダヤ人と土着のヘブライ系ユダヤ人の対立）が生じるにつれ、成長する教会の中で生じた必要性に応えるためでした。彼らは、日々の食事の提供、すなわち給仕（人々の世話をすること）を監督するために選ばれたのです。彼らが選ばれたのは、使徒たちが祈りと御言葉の奉仕に専念できるようにするためでした。ステパノの働きと、彼がどのようにしてキリストの証人として最初の殉教者となったのかについて見ていきます。
