“Elisha: Receiving the Mantle of God’s Blessings”

For this message, we will look at the prophet Elisha. Elisha in a sense was God’s answer to Elijah’s prayer of desperation when he was in his depressed state. Elijah truly needed a friend, and God gave Elisha to be his friend and also to be his successor. When Elijah first met Elisha, he threw his mantle on him. Elisha understood that Elijah had called him to become his disciple. After Elijah was taken up to heaven, Elisha took the mantle that fell from him. Thus, Elisha received the mantle of God’s blessings from Elijah as a prophet of God. As Christians, we are given a spiritual mantle from Jesus Christ who gives us a measure of authority to be His representatives in this world. We have received the mantle of God’s blessings to follow Jesus and share Him with others.
今回のメッセージでは、預言者エリシャを見てみます。エリシャは、ある意味、エリヤが落ち込んでいた時、彼の絶望の祈りに対する神様の答えでした。エリヤは本当に友を必要としており、神様はその友として、またエリヤの後継者としてエリシャを与えられたのです。エリヤはエリシャに初めて会ったとき、外套を彼の上にかけました。エリシャは、エリヤが自分を弟子として召したことを理解していました。エリヤが昇天された後、エリシャはエリアから落ちた外套を取り上げました。こうしてエリシャは、神の預言者としてエリヤから神の祝福の外套を受け取ったのです。クリスチャンとして、私達はイエス・キリストから霊的な外套が与えられています。私たちは、イエスに従い、他の人々とイエスを分かち合うために、神の祝福の外套を受け取ったのです。
